Stretta

There's an Option Between

Medication and Surgery

If you’ve been managing GERD with medication for years, and you think surgery is your only other option — Stretta Therapy may be an alternative.

It’s a minimally invasive procedure that treats the root cause of GERD without incisions, without an overnight hospital stay, and without the lengthy recovery that comes with traditional surgery. Most Stretta patients go home the same day.

How It Works

During the procedure, a specially designed catheter is inserted through the mouth and guided to the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and gastric cardia.

The Stretta system delivers controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy to the muscle tissue in and around the sphincter. This energy remodels and strengthens the tissue, improving barrier function and reducing inappropriate relaxations that allow stomach contents to reflux into the esophagus.

The procedure is typically performed under sedation in an outpatient setting and usually takes less than an hour. Because no incisions are required, recovery time is generally short, and most patients return to normal activities within a few days.

How it Helps

Clinical studies have shown significant, lasting improvement in reflux symptoms for many patients after Stretta, including:

  • Heartburn
  • Regurgitation
  • Chronic cough related to reflux
  • Overall Quality of Life Score

Many patients also find they’re able to reduce or stop their reliance on proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), and other anti-reflux medications, after treatment.

Who It's For

Stretta may be right for you if:

  • Medication isn’t giving you enough relief
  • You’re concerned about long-term PPI use
  • You are not a candidate for surgery
  • You want a lasting solution, not just symptom management

More than 35,000 procedures have been performed worldwide, and Stretta has been evaluated in more than 40 clinical studies. It’s one of the most studied minimally invasive reflux treatments available.
